Author Talk: Diane Lovegrove Bader, “Setting Donegal on Fire”

Sunday, April 23, 2017

In Setting Donegal on Fire author Diane Lovegrove Bader tells the story of her great-grandfather Daniel Sweeney, a wealthy Irish immigrant who left San Francisco to return to his homeland with his wife and children.

Appalled at the miserable conditions in which he finds the peasants of his native land, he challenges what he believes is a policy of neglect by both landlords and the authorities. Find out what happens to him and his family as a result.

Two of Daniel’s sons, Ambrose and Daniel Joseph moved to South San Francisco in 1895 and became deeply involved with business and local government, with Daniel Joseph serving as mayor from 1910-1912.
