The California Parks and Recreation Society District 4 Annual Award and Recognition Dinner was recently held at the Quinlan Center in Cupertino. Each year, staff and a number of Commissioners and Councilmembers attend this event to recognize outstanding programs and individuals that have made significant contributions to the parks and recreation industry.
This year, South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department and its staff received the following awards:
Professional Merit Award - Mike Borovina: After retiring from his previous career, Mike has worked for the Parks and Recreation Department for over 20 years as a Building Attendant. Mike plays a key support role in nearly every special event the Parks and Recreation Department participates in. Mike is an extraordinary leader, teacher and coworker. We are honored to nominate Mike for the Professional Merit Award.
Award of Excellence/Recreation Programming - Full of Fun Camp: Designed by Kelli Jo Cullinan and Laura Armanino in 2007, Full of Fun Camp was established to provide young people with disabilities with outlets to socialize and recreate with their peers. Kelli and Laura host a three week camp during the summer and evening meetups one day each month throughout the year.
Volunteer Citation Award - Nicolas Russo: Staff is delighted to nominate Nicolas for the volunteer award for his volunteer service at Full of Fun Camp. Nic, who is also a senior at Saint Ignatius College Preparatory High School in San Francisco, leads activities, interacts with the campers and helps impart life skills to the camp participants. Nic is exceptionally patient, gentle and respectful and is a fantastic role model for both the campers and his peers.
