The draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) evaluates the environmental significance of the development of a new Community Civic Campus and Library and Recreation Facility, a new South San Francisco Police Department headquarters, other City offices, and associated parking structure on the parcels generally bound by El Camino Real and Chestnut Avenue. A new fire station would be constructed on the western project site bordered by Arroyo Drive, Camaritas Avenue and El Camino Real, while the existing Municipal Services Building would be demolished (partially or completely). To accommodate these uses, the City is also updating its El Camino Real/Chestnut Area Plan with minor changes to reflect the project. In particular, this involves the changing of the Public land use designation to El Camino Real Mixed Use North and revisions to the companion zoning to ensure consistency. The project would require the following actions on the part of the City: (1) El Camino Real/Chestnut Avenue Area Plan land use map, guiding policies, and sub-area policies amendment; (2) zoning text and map amendment for minor revisions; (3) General Plan amendment for minor revisions; and (4) CEQA approval.
